MUSIC ON/OFF

Howdy Genealogy Lovers! I became involved in genealogy when I joined several patriotic groups:

  • Daughters of the American Revolution
  • Daughters of 1812
  • Lamar Fontaine Chapter 33 U.D.C.
  • Colonial Dames 17th Century
  • Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
  • Loyalists & Patriots of the American Revolution.

My husband and I live in West Columbia,Texas. He practices veterinary medicine in Brazoria, Texas, specializing inlarge animals. We are semi-retired.

I was born in West Columbia, Texas and am a 6th generation Texan.

I have always loved West Columbia Cemetery. As children, we used to walk to town and stop in the cemetery to read the stones. Then off to the Saturday matinee at the Capitol Theater. I recently found out that my father had four lots in this cemetery so I decided to get our family tombstone early - so I can enjoy it and I know my descendants will love it! My husband thinks I have lost my mind.

My mother, sister and I have found burial places of several of our ancestors in Greene County Tennessee that were not in the cemeteries. Sam Bruner born 7-25-1803 and died 12-23-1868 is buried on Ball Ridge near Baileyton, Tennessee, "a most beautiful place for a grave". When we finally made it to the top of the ridge through the electric fence, the cow and horse, we found his tombstone and a beautiful view of the area. The following letter is how became aware of Samuel Bruner's grave site and our Bruner genealogy.

Letter from Archibald Bruner to his Grand Daughter

Near Warrensburg, Tennessee on Fish Hatchery Road past several old farms we found the Bible farm. The burial ground was completely grown over and we could not see the tombstones. Listed are the ancestors that are buried in the grown over plot:

    Philip Hale
    died Oct. 20 1819
    aged 66 yrs. 6 mos. 2 days
    Catharine Hale
    Wife of Philip Hale
    died Oct. 17, 1849
    aged 87 yrs. 4 mos. 14 days

Here is a list of our family names. It is not complete. If you have any comments or questions, please e-mail me.
